In 2009, a new attraction will be opening at the Kentucky Horse Park.  It will be called the Arabian Horse Galleries, an 8000 square foot museum dedicated to the Arabian Horse.  It will house the Arabian Horse Trust Museum Collection as well as other private collections to form a premier showcase of the art and artifacts about the Arabian Horse and its heritage in the Near East.  It will also include interactive exhibits to create excitement for the breed with a large target audience of 7-15 year old children.

The Galleries will introduce, educate and excite the public and future generations about the impact of the Arabian horse on the cultures of the world, as well as its impact on other breeds.    The exhibit will be open in time for the 2010 World Equestrian Games at the Horse Park and will bring millions of people to the Park, where they can experience the Arabian Horse in the wonderful new Arabian Horse Galleries.

At the 2008 Convention in Denver, an update about the Galleries was presented and clubs were asked to help.  I am proud to announce that SAHIBA was the second club (and the first KY club) to step up and pledge $1,000 to the Galleries.  This pledge amount will ensure that SAHIBA will receive permanent recognition in the Galleries.  We, as SAHIBA delegates, felt this was a very important and worth-while contribution since the galleries will be located in our "back-yard" so to speak.

An informative presentation about the Arabian Horse Galleries will be given at the upcoming SAHIBA meeting and awards banquet in January.  Please plan to attend and please consider a donation to SAHIBA for their pledge.  If you have any questions or would like more information about the Galleries, feel free to contact me.  If I don't know the answer, I'll put you in touch with those who can.

Thank you for your support,
Deneb Thompson

The Kentucky Arabian and Half Arabian Breeders Alliance

KAHABA

The Arabian Horse Association Board of Directors heard and approved a new initiative in Kentucky that will benefit the Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian owner, at their March 7-8 meeting.  As a result of the formation of a new club, which will represent the Arabian breed, Arabian and Half-Arabian horse owners will benefit from state funds set aside for the equine industry. The new club, the Kentucky Arabian and Half-Arabian Breeders Alliance, promises to work hard to produce a program that will be beneficial to Arabian and Half-Arabian horse owners. The horses eligible are those that are Kentucky bred, and those that reside in the state of Kentucky. KAHABA is currently in the process of creating rules and criteria for the Kentucky Breeders Incentive Fund.  Email blasts will be sent out periodically asking for information on the current status of Arabians and Half Arabians in the state of Kentucky.  General Membership meeting will be announced soon and will have a tentative date of first week of July to be held in conjuction with the Region 14 show.
